Dushanbe. 22 August. “Asia-Plus” –Over 44 thousand young Tajikistanis have applied for education in the country’s universities from the new academic year. It does not include those who have applied for law-enforcement, security, and military higher educational institutions.
The Ministry of Education told Asia-Plus that the final number of enrolled students is not known, since in some universities examinations continue until 27 August and after this the Ministry will count the total number of freshmen.
According to the source, in the new academic year the five most prestigious universities based on the number of applicants are the Tajik State University (over 6 thousand applicants), Avicenna Medical University (over 4 thousand applicants), Babajan Ghafourov State University (over 4 thousand applicants), Nasser Khosrow University (approximately 4 thousand applicants), Physical Education Institute (over 2 thousand applicants).
They noted in the Ministry that the most highly demanded professions among the youth, despite the information technology age, are pedagogy, medicine and economist. The source explained that “Pedagogical faculty is leading in this area, since all the universities have a pedagogical faculty.”
According to the Ministry’s information, 35 thousand 886 people enrolled in the country’s universities last year.
