DUSHANBE, December 30, Asia-Plus  -- The final government meeting of the year, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, was held Thursday (December 29) afternoon.

According to the presidential press service, the meeting reviewed the results of this year’s work and the process of implementation of a number of national economic development programs.

The meeting also considered issues related to preparations for the spring sowing campaign and a number of draft laws worked out by the government.

In all, more than 50 issues have been tabled to the meeting’s agenda.

Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali, in particular, reported on the process of implementation of the national program for full processing of leather and wool in Tajikistan until 2015.

This program was adopted in December 2008 in order to establish enterprises for processing leather, wool, tobacco, silk cocoon and other raw materials.

Four new leather and wool processing enterprises have been launched in the country since the program was adopted on December 31, 2008, the minister said.

Speaking at the meeting, the head of state ordered relevant bodies to take adequate measures to launch some 10 other enterprises for processing leather and wool in various regions of the country in 2012.

Ms. Sumangul Taghoyeva, Chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs, reported on the process of implementation of the country’s law on state guarantees of providing equal opportunities for men and women.

The meeting also considered and endorsed draft laws on transportations safety and microfinance organizations as well as draft laws requiring amendments to the laws on forensic examination, weapons, state social insurance, system of execution of criminal punishments and physical training and sports.

The mentioned draft laws will be sent for consideration to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).

The meeting also approved the concept of improvement of electronic government and municipal redevelopment plans for the city of Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province and the administrative center of the Roshtqala district in Gorno Badakhshan.
