DUSHANBE, June 16, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Over the first five months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 2.3313 billion U.S. dollars, which was 108.6 percent of the January-May 2013 level, according the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
The trade balance was negative and amounted to 1.5 billion U.S. dollars.
Over the first five months of this year, exports of goods have amounted to some 414.8 million U.S. dollars, which was 22.3 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
Over the same five-month period, imports of goods into the country have amounted to 1.9165 billion U.S. dollars, which was 18.8 percent more than in January-May 2013.
In January-May this year, Tajikistan has had trade relations with 81 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.
The CIS nations have reportedly accounted for 47.1 percent of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover over the report period.
In January-May 2014, major partners for Tajikistan’s exports were: Turkey – 23 percent; Switzerland – 21 percent; Kazakhstan – 17.1 percent; Iran – 12.7 percent; Russia – 9.3 percent; Russia – 9.3 percent; China – 4.2 percent; and Afghanistan – 4.0 percent.
In January-May 2014, major partners for Tajikistan’s imports were: Russia – 31.9 percent; Kazakhstan – 14.2 percent; China – 11.3 percent; Turkey – 8.3 percent; the United States – 4.4 percent;
We will recall that in 2013 the external trade turnover of Tajikistan amounted to some 5 billion U.S. dollars, which was 102.9 percent of the 2012 level or 146.7 million U.S. dollars more.
