DUSHANBE, June 24, 2014, Asia-Plus -- The remainder of loans provided by Tajik banks rose 37.1 percent in a year to May March 31, 2014, reaching 8.6 billion somoni, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

3.5 billion somoni were provided in loans in the national currency and more than 5 billion somoni were provided in loans in foreign currencies.

Short-term loans reportedly provided for 59.1 percent of the overall volume of loans provided over the first five months of this year and long-term loans provided for 40.9 percent.   

In May 2014, the weighted average interest rate for loans provided in the national currency was 26.31 percent and the weighted average interest rate for loans provided in foreign currencies was 24.2 percent, Tajik central bank noted.
