DUSHANBE, June 8, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today received Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian, who arrived in Dushanbe for participation in the high-level international conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Life”, 2005-2015.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Emomali Rahmon stressed during the meeting that Tajikistan was satisfied  with the current level of economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Tajik president reportedly noted that more than 150 Iranian companies now successfully operated in Tajikistan and a two-way trade between the two countries last year valued at 228 million U.S. dollars.

The two sides expressed confidence that an experience of bilateral cooperation accumulated during construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant would be used during construction of new hydroelectric facilities in Tajikistan.

Expansion of trilateral cooperation between Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan, including construction of rail links, power transmission lines and water pipelines connecting the three Persian-speaking states was reportedly  among major topics of the meeting.
