DUSHANBE, June 24, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received a delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA).
Tajik president’s official website reports the meeting focused on issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the North Atlantic Alliance, providing regional security and technical support for relevant structures of Tajikistan.
The sides reportedly noted that Tajikistan was carrying out fruitful cooperation with NATO in various areas, including training of Tajik military personnel, learning English language, combating international terrorism and extremism, humanitarian demining, destruction of ammunition, combating drug trafficking, forecasting of natural disasters and mitigation of their effects.
This cooperation is being carried out within the frameworks of the Partnership for Peace Program and the Individual Partnership Action Plan between Tajikistan and NATO.
Special attention was reportedly paid to issues of promoting strengthening of peace and stability in Afghanistan and strengthening of Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan.
Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan supported NATO’s initiative on expansion of cooperation with the countries of the region for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The sides also exchanged views on other topical regional and international issues, including the latest developments in Middle East countries and intensification of fight against international terrorism and extremism.
They expressed confidence that cooperation between Tajikistan and NATO for the purpose of supporting security and defense structures of Tajikistan and providing security and stability in the region would expand in the future as well, the website said.
