The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will reinvest the money, saved during the implementation of investment projects in Tajikistan, in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
IsDB Board of Directors reportedly adopted such a decision, and after that, the two sides signed an agreement on making changes to a financial agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank, which was endorsed by Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament last week.
“Due to savings made during the implementation of investment projects in Tajikistan, 9.4 million U.S. dollars will be reinvested in the fight against COVID-19 in the country,” a source at a MoF told Asia-Plus at an interview.
According to him, these funds will be used for the purchase of intensive treatment equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), antiseptics and other means to prevent the further spreading of the disease in Tajikistan.
