DUSHANBE, October 20, Asia-Plus - Russian Aluminum (RusAl) consistently fulfills its obligations under an agreement with the Tajik government on the construction of the Roghun power plant, two electrolysis workshops at the Tajik aluminum plant and a new aluminum smelter in Tajikistan, Aleksandr Kasatkin, a spokesman for RusAl, said in an interview in Dushanbe.
”A feasibility study for the construction of aluminum facilities has already been conducted, but construction can begin only after electricity supply issues are resolved by the Tajik side.” he said, “That is why at present the company primarily is focusing of the electricity supply problem, as we want to complete the project expeditiously.”
He noted that one of a German engineering companies, Lehmeyer International, completed the feasibility study for the construction of the station in September of this year and it has been submitted to the Tajik government.
The feasibility study has also undergone additional review by the consulting engineering firm Coyne Et Bellier and will be discussed at the next meeting of Tajik-Russian economic commission,” he said.
Under the agreement RusAl plans to invest in the construction of two electrolysis workshops with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons at the Tajik Aluminum Plant. It also plans to build a new aluminum smelter in the south of Tajikistan with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons. The company also will invest in completing the construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station on the River Vakhsh, which will supply the new plants with electricity, part of which will be exported outside Tajikistan.
