KULOB, September 12, Asia-Plus - On September 10, Tajikistan marked 2700 th anniversary of the establishment of the Tajik southern city of Kulob.
On this occasion, performances featuring many Tajikistan’s popular artistes were held in Kulob.
President Emomali Rahmonov and other high-ranking Tajik state officials as well as foreign guests were among the many people attending a theatrical show at the central stadium in Kulob on September 10.
Addressing those present, President Rahmonov noted that Tajiks as one of the ancient people of the world had made a considerable contribution to development of the world civilization. “Tajikistan has many ancient cities, being comparable to other ancient cities in the Central Asian region,” Rahmonov said.
Medieval scholars and poets from the Kulob region made a great contribution to development of science and culture in Central Asia, according to him.
On the present socio-economic development of the Kulob region, Rahmonov noted that a number of transportation projects being implemented in the country such as projects on the rehabilitation of the road Dushanbe-Kyrgyz border and the construction of the road Kulob-Darvoz-Khorog-Kulma-Karakarum Highway would reduce the region’s isolation for the neighboring countries. “Two bridges across the Panj River that will be built in Shuroobod and Farkhor districts will strengthen links between Tajikistan and Afghanistan,” President Rahmonov noted.
“A series of enterprises manufacturing 45 types of various products have been launched in Kulob over the past several years,” said Emomali Rahmonov, “These enterprises have allowed creating 1,400 new jobs in Kulob.”
During his two-day stay in Kulob Rahmonov also participated in an inauguration of a number of jubilee objects in Kulob, including new school to accommodate 650 pupils and reconstructed building of the Kulob Teachers’ Training College.
