DUSHANBE , January 11, Asia-Plus - The national moot court competition for the 2006 Philip C. Jessup Cup will be held in Dushanbe from January 14-15. 

According to information from the Office of the American Bar Association/Central European & Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA/CEELI), teams comprising law students and post-graduate students representing faculties of law at higher educational institutions of the republic will take part in the competition. 

The source says this competition will include a hypothetical problems related to involvement of transnational international corporation in violation of human rights and state possession of natural resources.  All teams wanting to take part in the competition have already authored and submitted written arguments before judges acting as the International Court of Justice in Hague.  “The team wining the national moot court competition will represent Tajikistan in the International Philip C. Jessup Cup Competition that will be held in Washington from March 27 to April 1 this year,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor said.    

In Tajikistan , the competition is staged by the ABA/CEELI under support of the United States Agency for International Development and the International Law Students Association (ILSA).

Information of Asia-Plus: The Philip C. Jessup Cup competition is sponsored by the International Law Students Association and involves a hypothetical problem of international law. Competitors author a written memorandum and the present oral arguments before judges acting as members of the International Court of Justice.  It was established in1959, and every year, law students from more than 550 law educational institutions from more than 90 countries take part in this competition.
