DUSHANBE, February 26, Asia-Plus -- By an initiative of President Emomali Rahmonov a subbotnik (day of volunteer work in the Soviet Union; from Russian word subbota for Saturday. The tradition is continued in modern Tajikistan) was held in Dushanbe on February 24.
According to presidential press, employees from president’s office, foreign ministry, agriculture and the ministry of land reclamation and water resources worked on improvement the territory around the being-built Palace of Nation. Some 4,000 decorative trees were planted there. President Rahmonov also took part in the subbotnik, according to the source.
More than 800 decorative trees were planted in the territory of the Palace of Independence (formerly Exhibition of Economic Achievements of Tajikistan).
In all, more than 6,000 various decorative trees were planted across the capital city on Saturday.
We will recall that 10 million seedlings are scheduled to have been planted in Tajikistan this year.
