DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus -- In Tajikistan, women constitute only 7.6 percent of employees of central state bodies, Qimmatqul Aliberdiyeva, deputy chairperson of the Committee for Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, said.

 According to her, women constitute 8.1 percent of employees of the ministries and state committees, 13.8 percent of employees of president’s executive office.  “10 women are chairpersons of cities and districts,” said Aliberdiyeva said, “Besides, women constitute 27.4 percent of deputy heads of cities and districts in the republic.”     

“All these indices exceed the 2004 level by 50 percent,” Aliberdiyeva said, adding that women make 47 percent of employees of the education sector, 54 percent of the employees of the culture sphere, 58 percent of employees of healthcare, social sphere and physical training and sports.   Women also constitute 36 percent of employees of judicial system in Tajikistan, according to her.   

On the work carried out by the committee and its sub-divisions in the provinces, she said they had already fulfilled 80 percent of the program aimed at providing education and development for women for 2004-2016. 

            At present 153 women’s non-government organizations operate in Tajikistan.
