DUSHANBE, April 19, Asia-Plus -- Domestic violence remains one the main problems facing Tajik society, Mehrinisso Nosirova, the chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 18.
According to her, some 150 women have applied to the committee for help since the beginning of the year. “Many women are just not aware of their rights,” Nosirova said.
She noted that women victims of violence had applied primarily for legal advice in divorce suits and shelter. Nosirova noted that over the report period, with support of international organizations 70 vulnerable families had been provided with financial aid.
“The committee also provides the social and psychological rehabilitation,” said the committee head. “The committee will continue taking efforts to create jobs for women victims of violence and raise their legal literacy.”
