DUSHANBE, November 14, Asia-Plus -- Issues related to Tajikistan’s admission to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will be considered at a session of the UNTWO General Assembly that will open in Columbia on November 22, Bakhtiyor Hamdamov, the deputy head of the Committee for Youth’s Affairs, Sports and Tourism.
According to him, delegates from 150 countries will take part the UNWTO General Assembly’s session in Columbia. “Tajikistan will be admitted to the Organization if two-thirds of delegates vote for this,” Hamdamov said.
A Tajik delegation led Maliksho Nematov, the head of the Committee for Youth’s Affairs, Sports and Tourism, will attend the UNWTO General Assembly’s session in Columbia, the deputy head said. “At present the committee is preparing report, booklets, brochures and magazines about tourism and relevant industries in Tajikistan,” Hamdamov said.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO/OMT) is a specialized agency of the United Nations and the leading international organization in the field of tourism. It serves as a global forum for tourism policy issues and a practical source of tourism know-how.
UNWTO plays a central and decisive role in promoting development of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the interests of developing counties. .

Direct actions that strengthen and support the efforts of National Tourism Administrations are carried out by UNWTO''s regional representatives (Africa, the Americas, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe, the Middle east and South Asia) based at the Headquarters in Madrid. UNWTO is committed to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) geared toward reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development.
