PANJAKENT, April 15, Asia-Plus  -- The UN WFP Country Office in Tajikistan has distributed humanitarian aid to vulnerable sections of the population in Sughd’s Panjakent district since April 14.  

Saidjon Jalolov, field assistant at the WFP office in Khujand, said that the aid has been distributed to 14 jamoats in the district.  According to him, the beneficiaries include 18,836 people, including 7,987 men and 10,849 women. 

“The aid distribution is part of the “Aid for Vulnerable Sections of the Population” project that has worked in the regions since last winter,” said Jalolov.        

“In all, 408.9 tons of wheat flour and 59,976 tons of peas are planned to be distributed to the vulnerable people in Panjakent,” Jalolov said, noting that since the beginning of the year, WFP has already distributed humanitarian aid to Spitamen, Ghonchi, and Jabborrasulov districts. The aid included some 1,160 tons of wheat flour, 99.907 tons of peas and 6.237 tons of salt, according to him.
