Kyrgyzstan will export 500 million kWh of electric power to Kazakhstan. The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Igor Chudinov, informed after the session of Chui regional state administration concerning the preliminary results of social and economic development for the first half of 2008 on Wednesday, the agency reports. "Export of electric power is limited to ensure power security in Kyrgyzstan. Only 400 million kWh will be exported to Kazakhstan," I. Chudinov said. According to the chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, price for 1 kW of electric power makes 4.5 cents. "It is a rather high price; however, we need this money. The money received from export of electric power will be spent on provision with fuel of Bishkek thermal power station, which will cover the needs of thermal power station only by third," I. Chudinov noted.
To-date, China has invested over $5 billion in Tajikistan's energy sector.
