Two Kazakh-French joint ventures are due to be set up at Ust Kamenogorsk titanium and magnesium plant. The representatives of this plant reported about this fact to Nursultan Nazarbaev during his last visit to the plant.
The President visited titanium and magnesium manufacturing and also got acquainted with miniature models of prospective Kazakh-French JVs of titanium ingot and alloys production. Their start is planned for 2009 and 2010 years. The estimated capacities are 12,000 tons of titanium alloys and 4,000 tons of titanium ingots of commercial purpose.
“This is export oriented manufacturing with high value added. The plant chose the right strategy,” Nursultan Nazarbaev stressed.
Ust Kamenogorsk titanium and magnesium plant is the only producer and exporter of magnesium ingots and titanium sponge. The main consumers of its products are famous international corporations like Rolls Royce, General Electric, Snekma and others. The agreement with Timet enterprise made the plant one of the main integrated suppliers of titanium for aircraft manufacture, including for the Boeing Company.
Nursultan Nazarbaev also mentioned that breakthrough projects of East Kazakhstan provide the plants with the statuses of the main international exporters. These projects are construction of copper-smelting plant of Kazzinc Corporation, construction of Aktogay ore mining and dressing plant of Kazakhmys Corporation, and also start-up of tantalum powder and heat-producing element building manufacturing by Kazatomprom Corporation.
