Today, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov received President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, who arrived in Turkmenistan yesterday. The two presidents signed a bilateral declaration in the end of the meeting.
The presidents of Latvia and Turkmenistan agreed "to utilize all their efforts in promoting economic cooperation and trade, which is beneficial for both countries," the Latvian president''s press service said. The presidents mentioned transport, communications, textile industry, wood industry and forestry as the areas with best cooperation prospects.
Much attention was also paid to boosting the political dialog between Latvia and Turkmenistan.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Valdis Zatlers stressed similarity of Turkmenistan''s and Latvia''s positions on important regional and international issues. The sides expressed support for the international community in fighting terrorism, organized crime and drug smuggling.
At the end of the meeting, Valdis Zatlers thanked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the whole nation for their warm welcome and invited the president of Turkmenistan to visit Latvia, the Latvian president''s press service said.
To-date, China has invested over $5 billion in Tajikistan's energy sector.
