On 28 December, a re-run for a seat in the national parliament was held at constituency No 84 in Sakar district of Lebap Region as part of the election of the new national parliament. The re-run was held in accordance with the earlier adopted resolution of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Turkmenistan (CEC).
Two contenders run for a deputy''s mandate, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the CEC. They won the highest amount of votes at the constituency during the nationwide polling for the Mejlis of the fourth convocation held on 14 December 2008.
National observers monitored the re-run at all 17 polling stations. They observed the election procedures, the CEC said. According to their assessment, the turn out of people was high. It is reported that no violation was logged during the polling.
It should be recalled that a re-run will be also held constituency No 101 in Oguzhan district of Mary province on 8 February 2009. The elected deputy from this constituency withdrew his deputy mandate for family reasons.
