The European Union has adopted several statements that express concern and criticism over the bills on Freedom of Press and Freedom of Religion ratified by Kyrgyzstan. Restriction of access to information, broadcasting licensing and the arrest of politicians from the opposition influences the relationship with the European Union, Elisabeth Jeggle, German Member of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats in the European Parliament, Member of the EU Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan and EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for Relations with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia told the news agency “24.kg”.
According to Mr Jeggle, the European Union will continue insofar will continue to express its concerns and criticism until freedom of press and religion in Kyrgyzstan are fully guaranteed.
