On 23 April, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a number of meetings with high-ranking guests who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the international high level conference titled "Reliable and stable transit of energy and its role in maintaining sustainable development and international cooperation".

The president of Turkmenistan met with Andre Mernier, Secretary General of the Energy Charter; Sha Zukang, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs; Bolat Nurgaliyev, SCO Secretary General; Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, OSCE Secretary General; Anatoliy Dron, Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary; Hurshid Anvar, ECO Secretary General; Ergash Shoismatov, Uzbekistan''s vice prime minister.

It was noted during the meetings that the Ashgabat conference would become an important step in developing joint approaches to the resolution of the energy security problem which is a hot issue in the contemporary international relations.
