“Establishment of the Transit Center at Manas airport in Bishkek is an important contribution of Kyrgyzstan to the global fight with terrorism,” the President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiev, said visiting the center Friday on the occasion of the tragic events’ of September 11, 2001 anniversary.
Despite recent presidential election, situation in Afghanistan remains unstable, Bakiev said.
The Kyrgyz leader believes that tragedy of 9/11 brought people and the world community closer together to fight against the common enemy – terrorism. For Kyrgyzstan this fight has a special meaning. “The today’s reality proves that Afghanistan should apply other than military methods, such as political, economical and social,” Bakiev said.
In his speech the president also mentioned Kyrgyzstan’s recent initiative, to become a platform for dialog between the conflicting states, under the auspice of the United Nations.
