Journalism students learned about the importance of ethics as a pillar of media self-regulation at a training course supported by the OSCE Centre in Astana on Thursday.
The participants discussed professional ethical guidelines and the importance of media self-regulatory mechanisms at the event, which was organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana together with the Karaganda-based public foundation Medialife.
"Journalists'' adherence to a set of ethical norms will foster professionalism and encourage public trust in the media," said Ambassador Alexandre Keltchewsky, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana.
Olga Volkova, the president of Medialife, added: "Young students represent the future of Kazakhstani journalism, and thus they should abide by professional standards to contribute to the strengthening of a responsible and independent press."
The training course was part of the OSCE Centre''s activities to promote the mechanisms of media self-regulation in Kazakhstan and follows similar events held in Karaganda and Pavlodar.
