In November 2009 Russia and Kazakhstan plan to sign the new version of the document about the transit of the electricity through Kazakhstan to Siberia in view of the aftermath of the incident at the Sayano-Shushin Hydro Electric Power Station, Russian Vice Minister of Energy Vyacheslav Sinyugin said.
According to Sinyugin, sides discussed the wording of the document and agreed on most points.
After the incident at the Sayano-Shushin Hydro Electric Power Station, which happened on 17 August, the energy system of Siberia lost nearly 4.3 gigawatt of power. It was decided to cover the deficit by thermal generation and transfer of electricity from the European part of Russian energy system and from Ural region. The transfer capacities of Russian electric lines are insufficient and it was decided to agree with Kazakhstan about the transit of electricity through its territory.
