“School extortions tend to be systematic in Kyrgyzstan,” the Kyrgyz Education and Science Minister Abdylda Musaev said Friday at the collegium on education accessibility and lawfulness of school fund raising in Bishkek.
Inspections have uncovered gross violations almost in every school and educational institution of the country. “In Bishkek, where school authorities freely extort money from students’ parents on a regular basis, the situation is extremely dramatic,” Musaev said.
The minister called colleagues to impose elementary legal order in the system – set up a mechanism for legal collection and application of funds and irradiate unauthorized extortions.
“Today voluntary donations tend to be compulsory. Educational authorities do not carry out proper control of the situation, in which connection they are being harshly criticized,” the minister said.
