AKIpress says that in a report released at a government session in Bishkek, Kamchybek Tashiyev, Chief of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (GKNB) also Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, relieved on January 20 that over the past 2 ½ years (2021-July 2023), Kyrgyzstan has channeled 125 billion soms to upgrading its military equipment.  

He reportedly noted that 32 billion soms were spent in 2021; 53 billion soms in 2022; and more than 40 billion soms have been spent over the first six months of this year. 

According to him, they have purchased Bayraktar, Aksungur and Akinci unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UAVs), MI-8 and Mi-17 helicopters and the anti-aircraft missile system “Pechora”.

“We didn't get all this as a gift, All this has been purchased at the expense of means of a public finance,” Tashiyev said.  

He further said that in 2005-2020, only 3 billion -- 5 billion soms were spent for upgrading the country’s military equipment.
