DUSHANBE, February 16, 2008, Asia-Plus -- The Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) is currently holding a meeting to elect new NOC president.
We will recall that speaking to reporters in Dushanbe on February 12, incumbent Tajikistan’s NOC President Bahrullo Rajabaliyev said that President Emomali Rahmon has been nominated to the post of President the National Olympic Committee.
“Under the circumstances of the global financial crisis, the sports development situation has becoming difficult,” said Rajabaliyev, “Therefore, we have nominated President Rahmon as candidate to the post of NOC President. I hope that election of Emomali Rahmon as NOC president will give a new impulse to development of the Olympic Movement in the country”
Bahrullo Rajabaliyev was elected as president of Tajikistan’s NOC on February 2005.
The NOC was supposed to meet to elect new head of this organization on February 14 but in connection with death of the first legendary Tajik sambo world champion Saidmumin Rahimov the meeting was postponed till February 16.
