DUSHANBE, May 19, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Defending champions Regar-TadAZ of Tajikistan scraped through to the semi-finals of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) President’s Cup 2009 on goals record after being held to a shock 2-2 draw by Nepal Police Club Monday, AFC’s website reported today.
Pakistan Wapda came from behind to thrash Taiwan Power Company 3-1 in the other pool game for a deadlock of five points with Regar.
However, the issue was clinched in the favor of the Tajik powerhouse as they had notched up five goals in all their group matches as compared to three by Pakistan Wapda.
Shujaot Nematov opened the scoring for Makhmadjon Khabibulloev’s team on 24 minutes but Chetan Ghimire equalized four minutes later. Maruf Rustamov made it 2-1 for Regar two minutes into the restart but Ghimire restored parity again with his second goal four minutes past the hour.
