DUSHANBE, August 31, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik athletes won 17 medals in the 9th Junior and the 4th Veteran ITF Taekwon-do Championships that took place in Minsk, Belarus on August 21-28, 2010.
“Fifteen taekwon-do fighters represented Tajikistan in these championships and they won six gold medals,” Mirsaid Yahyayev, the president of the Federation of ITF Taekwon-do and Kickboxing of Tajikistan, said.
According to him, 500 athletes from 47countries of the world participated in the championships. “Our junior taekwon-do fighters showed the best results and took the first place,” Mr. Yahyayev said.
Tajik coach Furqat Urunov won three gold medals and became holder of the 2010 Veteran ITF Taekwon-do ITF World Cup, he added.
Mr. Yahyayev noted that the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs, closed joint-stock company (CJSC) TT Mobile, limited liability company Somon Air, and Dushanbe International Airport had been official sponsors of the Tajik team for participation in the 9th Junior and the 4th Veteran ITF Taekwon-do Championships in Minsk.
