DUSHANBE, January 30, Asia-Plus -- Following attack on prison in the northern city of Qairoqqum Tajikistan has upgraded control of the Sughd stretch of its common border with Kyrgyzstan, according to information from the State Committee for Protection of State Border of Tajikistan.
The source in the border service says criminals may cross the Tajik-Kyrgyz border because the two republics have no visa regime. The border control has been tightened both on the Tajik side and the Kyrgyz side of the border, according to the source.
As it had been reported earlier, unidentified assailants attacked the police-run jail in the northern city of Qairoqqum on January 25 killing the prison head Bobojon Gadoyboyev and freeing the prisoner Fathullo Rahimov, resident of Isfara, who was arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing weapons.
