DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus - “I consider the Georgian secession from the CIS council of defense ministers to become a considerable precondition for collapse of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS),” deputy head of the Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan (SDPT), Shokirjon Hakimov, has told Asia-Plus commenting on Georgia’s decision to secede the CIS council of defense ministers.

In his opinion, the Georgian secession from the CIS council of defense ministers won’t affect the CIS security because all the CIS states are currently trying to conduct “a many-vector foreign policy.”
“As far as Georgia’s official announcement about its targets for the accession to the NATO is concerned, it is quite a complex issue and only wish of the official Tbilisi is not enough, but if to take into account geopolitical interests of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Georgia with further strengthening of its influence on the post-Soviet area, it cannot be ruled out that this country will be admitted to the NATO,” the SDPT deputy leader said.
