DUSAHNBE, February 7, Asia-Plus -- Foreign ministers from the countries signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on drug control cooperation are gathering in the Uzbek capital Tashkent for a two-day meeting, according to information from the Tajik MFA Information Department.
The Tajik MFA source has told Asia-Plus that the 7 th meeting of member countries of the memorandum set for February 7-8 will bring together senior representatives of the foreign ministries from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. First Deputy Foreign Minister, Saymumin Yatimov, will represent Tajikistan at the meeting.
The meeting is aiming to consider national reports on a state of cooperation between the countries in combating trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors and discuss regional and international mechanisms of interaction and prospects of further expansion of cooperation in this area.
“The meeting is supposed to result in signing of a document on establishment of the Central Asian information-coordination center for fighting drug trafficking,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor said.
Representatives from the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the CIS Executive Committee, Interpol, and some international financial institutions and observers from a number of states are also supposed to attend the meeting in Tashkent.
