Present government of Iran source of instability in the region, says Department of State official

DUSHANBE
, May 8, Asia-Plus -- The United States is seeking various diplomatic ways of resolving the problem with the Iranian nuclear program, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard A. Boucher told journalists in
Dushanbe
today following his meeting with President Rahmonov.
“The present government of
Iran
is the source of instability in the region,” Mr. Boucher said. According to him,
Iran
is currently interfering in domestic political affairs of other countries and supporting extremism.
“If
Iran
gets nuclear weapons it will cause enormous instability in
Near East
,” the
U.S.
diplomat said.
He added that the
United States
was currently working with governments of many countries to stop
Iran
from getting this kind of weapons.
