DUSHANBE, June 2, Asia-Plus - “Under the conditions of threat of spread of international terrorism our cooperation is acquiring a special significance” Tajik Security Minister Khayriddin Abdurrahimov stressed addressing the 20 ^th session of the council of the CIS security chiefs that opened in Dushanbe today.  

According to him, rising drug threat evokes a special concern and “it needs taking joint efforts as well as creating security belt around Afghanistan .

Russia ’s Federal Security Service (FSB) head Hikolai Patrushev who presides over the meeting noted that it was necessary to intensify exchange of information and experience of work “in countering intelligence and other activities carried out by special services of the third countries under cover of government and non-government organizations.”  

Patrushev pointed the necessity of combing efforts of special services of the CIS states and their Western partners to counter international terrorism.  “Increasing threats and challenges to international security and stability require consolidation of efforts of the national special services and law enforcement agencies of both the CIS states and the whole international community,” the FSB chief said.  

Today afternoon, the CIS Antiterrorist Center head Boris Mylnikov is making a report at the meeting on the implementation of the program of cooperation between the CIS states in fighting terrorism and extremism for the period of 2005-2007.  

As it had been reported earlier, the meeting is aiming to work out concerted measures to address new challenges and threats coming from international terrorism and extremism on the territory of CIS .  Participants in the meeting also will exchange views on the situation with the war on international terrorism and will outline ways of stepping up the search of the people involved in terrorist and extremist activities.  Besides, the meeting will discuss working out concerted measures for the protection of facilities of the fuel and energy complex of the CIS member states against terrorism, for the struggle against illegal drug trafficking and crimes in the sphere of computer information.
