DUSHANBE, June 12, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan has to set up a working group for improving Tajikistan’s legislation for resolving problems with debts of cotton farmers to domestic and foreign creditors, participants remarked at a meeting in Tajik central bank on June 9.
The meeting was held to discuss measures to be taken by the government to resolve problems of debts of cotton farmers in the republic. According to information from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the meeting participants exchanged views on the issues related to workout of proposals and recommendations to resolve the mentioned problems as well as ongoing economic reforms in the country.
The meeting participants included experts from the independent commission for settlement of debts of Tajik cotton farmers to domestic and foreign creditors, international organizations and donor countries, according to information fro the NBT.
Participants at the meeting pointed to the necessity of continuation of structural reorganizations and land reforms, and proposed to use land certificates as mortgage and refer farmlands to a category of real estate.
Besides, the meeting also discussed the issues of the establishment of a common registration for all types of real estate, workout of mechanism of simplified taxation, work out of mechanisms to prevent interference of local authorities in the activity of farming units, etc.
As it had been reported earlier, the independent commission for settlement of debts of Tajik cotton farmers to domestic and foreign creditors was set up in May 2005. Tajik cotton farmers now owe more than $280 million to domestic and foreign creditors.
