DUSHANBE, June 15, Asia-Plus -- A broad range of issues was discussed at a meeting of Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) with United Nations'' Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Agboola Gambari has arrived in Tajikistan for a three-day visit, in Dushanbe yesterday.
Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli head for ties with media and NGOs, has told Asia-Plus that during the meeting the two exchanged views on the method of achieving peace through negotiations on the Tajik model that could be used by other countries as a concept. The two also discussed issues related to preparations for the upcoming presidential election in Tajikistan.
Mr. Ubaidulloyev expressed gratitude to the UN agencies for supporting Tajikistan’s initiatives and contribution to the establishment of peace and national accord in the republic and for promoting democratic processes in Tajikistan.
On the issue political pluralism, Tajik speaker confirmed the country’s readiness to provide favorable conditions for activity of all political parties functioning on the basis law and establishment cooperation with them on achievement of national goals.
Dwelling on the upcoming presidential election in Tajikistan, Ubaidulloyev noted that all conditions necessary for holding fair, transparent and democratic elections meeting international standards had been provided in the country.
