KULOB, DUSHANBE, August 11, Asia-Plus -- Servicemen of border unit 2133 stationed in the Hamadoni district of Khatlon carried out a large-scale operation overnight to prevent illegal crossing of Tajik-Afghan border.
Kulob military prosecutor Mehrojiddin Nabotov has told Asia-Plus that when carrying out the operation the border guards spotted a group of Afghan drug traffickers who were crossing the border river in the area patrolled by frontier post # 5.
As a result of skirmish one of trespassers was injured. The trespassers managed to flee, according to the prosecutor. “Some 20 kilograms of heroin, five kilograms of raw opium, one sub-machine-gun “Kalashnikov” and two inflatable rubber dinghies were found on the spot,” Mehrojiddin Nabotov said. Search operation is ongoing, according to him.
In the meantime, the source in Tajik border service has told Asia-Plus that the trespassers were drowned.
