DUSAHNBE, September 4, Asia-Plus -- State and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan’s Government and the Asia Development Bank (ADB) were the aims of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmonov with visiting ADB Executive Director, Mr. Ashok Saikia, in Dushanbe on September 1.
According to information from presidential press service, in the course of the talks the two focused on expansion of cooperation in the fields such as energy, transportation, agrarian sector, and banking system.
During the meeting it was noted that the ADB intended to provide assistance to Tajikistan in the implementation of its poverty reduction strategy, Tajikistan’s socioeconomic development programs designed for the period up to 2015, as well as regional projects aimed at construction of roads, generation and export of electric power, as well as achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in future as well.
Mr. Ashok Saikia is the Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Lao Democratic Republic, and Tajikistan.
