DUSHANBE, September 7, Asia-Plus - Issues of state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran are aims of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmonov with Iranian Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, which is supposed to be held in Dushanbe tomorrow.
According to information from the Iranian Embassy in Iran, Mr. Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Speaker of Majlis (Iran’s parliament), is expected to arrive in Dushanbe today evening, at 8:00 p.m.
A source in the president’s executive office has told Asia-Plus that in the course of the talks the two are supposed to discuss economic and trade cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran, as well as interaction between the two countries in the fields of science, education and culture.
Iran’s speaker is arriving in Tajikistan to attend celebrations marking the 15 th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence and the 2700 th anniversary of the establishment of the city of Kulob, according to the source.
In the meantime IRNA reported yesterday that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of justice has been signed between the governments of Iran and Tajikistan. According to a report released by the government secretariat of information dissemination on Wednesday, the document was inked during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to the Tajik capital of Dushanbe in late July, IRNA said.
In the document, the two sides underlined the need for cooperation in the fields of law and justice, exchange of experts specialized in drawing up and evaluating law as well as exchange of visits by government delegations. Conducting joint research, holding seminars on applied sciences, arranging training courses and planning other programs with the aim of encouraging professional training of law experts, exchanging expertise between the justice departments of the two countries through development of information system have also been included in the document.
Based on the signed MoU, Iran and Tajikistan will cooperate in drawing up and inking judicial assistance agreement and extradition of criminals.
