DUSHANBE , September 7, Asia-Plus -- Representatives of the Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan (SDPT) declined to comment on a resolution on the upcoming presidential election adopted by Tajikistan ’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) at its first meeting in Dushanbe on September 4.
SDPT deputy head Shokirjon Hakimov said in an interview with Asia-plus that the party had not yet received a copy of the resolution. ”This document has not yet been legally formulated and is still under consideration,” Hakimov said.
The first meeting of the CCER adopted a resolution under which 3,600 Somonis will be provided
from state funds to each candidate to carry out his or her election campaign, and candidates have the right to raise additional campaign funds, which may not exceed 100,000 Somonis. The CCER also decided to set up 68 constituencies and 3,200 polling stations. The resolution also dictates the terms for collecting signatures to register as a candidate and procedures for accrediting international and local election monitors.
In the meantime, said Hakimov, a September 5 meeting of the SDPT managing board set the ninth extraordinary congress of the party for September 24. The congress is expected to be held in the building of Tajikistan ’s Federation of Independent Trade Unions in Dushanbe . The congress agenda includes the participation of the Social-Democratic Party in the presidential election, said Hakimov.
