DUSHANBE, October 10, Asia-Plus - Since 1993, Tajikistan has sought purchasers for eight tons of geranium oil produced in the republic in the Soviet time.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in order not to lose geranium crops they have assigned three hectares of farmland for geranium in Hissor Valley (central Tajikistan).
“In the Soviet time, 1,100 hectares of lands, primarily in southern Tajikistan, were planted with geranium but over the past thirteen years, we have lost the sale market and investors for this product,” the MoA source said, adding that over the past several years they have negotiated investment in this sector with Iran but without any result.
At present the ministry is seeking donors to invest in development of geranium crops in the republic. According to the source, geranium, which is used for perfumeries, is grown in Tajikistan in greenhouses.
