DUSAHNBE, October 23, Asia-Plus -- A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Tajikistan led by Carlos Pinerua arrived in Dushanbe on October 20.
According to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the mission Friday, October 20, held a meeting with Tajikistan’s economic team, including Finance Minister Safarali Najmuddinov, Minister for State Revenues and Tax Collections Ghulomjon Boboyev, NBT Chairman Murodali Alimardonov and senior representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
A source at a central bank said that the meeting focused on the results of work carried out by key ministries of Tajikistan’s economic block carried out in the first three quarters of this year, a draft national budget for 2007 and the current macroeconomic indices.
“Pinerua noted during the meeting that the mission will work on drafting macroeconomic foundation enabling to retain macroeconomic stability,” said the source, “The mission will focus on reforms of the main macroeconomic institutions, in particular in the filed of tax policy, administering revenues, banking system, workout and realization of the monetary policy.”
According to the central bank, the IMF mission is also scheduled to hold talks with President Emomali Rahmonov as well as senior representatives from the NBT, key ministries and organizations of the country’s economic block and international organizations.
The IMF mission’s visit to Tajikistan will last till November 3.
