DUSHANBE, October 26, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan’s cotton farmers are taking measures to gather cotton and fulfill the national target, which has been determined at 547,000 tons of cotton.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), cotton growers in districts subordinate to the center (RRP) have yielded 46,094 tons of cotton by October 25, which is 98.7 percent of the target. They have pledged to produce 46,700 tons of raw cotton this year.
Three RRP districts – Hissor, Rudaki and Vahdat – have fulfilled their targets and are continuing to gather cotton in addition to their obligations. Hissor has produced its targeted 11,000 tons of cotton and had gathered an additional 113 tons, Rudaki has gathered 136 tons of cotton in addition to its target determined at 6,700 tons of cotton, and Vahdat has gathered 6,640 tons of cotton by October 25, over-fulfilling its target by 5.4 percent.
Cotton growers in the Khatlon province have yielded 236,473 tons of cotton to this day, which is 71.9 percent of the target. Their target is 329,000 tons.
Two districts in Khatlon – Bokhtar and Kulob – have fulfilled their obligations and are continuing to gather cotton. Cotton farmers in Bokhtar over-fulfilled their target determined at 28,800 tons of cotton by 4.7 percent. Cotton farmers in Kulob produced their targeted 9,700 tons of cotton and had gathered an additional 195 tons by October 25.
The northern province of Sughd has gathered 119.102 tons by October 25, which is 69.5 percent of its target determined at 171,300 tons of cotton.
The republic has yielded 401,669 tons of cotton by October 25, which comprises 73.4 percent of this year’s target.
