DUSHANBE, November 8, Asia-Plus - International observers’ mission from the Ukrainian public association “For Fair Elections” has assessed a process and results of the presidential election in Tajikistan as “positive.”
The mission head Sergey Mirzoyev told journalists this yesterday. According to him, representatives from their mission visited more than 80 polling stations. “In its assessment, the mission has taken into consideration traditions and mentality of the Tajik people, historical and cultural features of the country’s development,” Mirzoyev said.
On the preliminary findings, the mission head noted that the process and the results of the election reflect real correlation of political forces in Tajikistan.
Dwelling on the issue of political competition, Mirzoyev said that the main Tajik opposition – the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT)– had not participated in the election, while a real political weight of other political competitors is incomparable to authority of Emomali Rahmonov. “The mission has not revealed any serious violations that could cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election,” Sergey Mirzoyev noted.
He also noted that their mission had recorded instances of “unacceptable and aggressive character of activity of some international observers.” “Thus, members of one of the Precinct Election Commissons have been obliged to prepare a document about abuse of powers by international observers,” he stressed.
