DUSHANBE, November 17, Asia-Plus - Heavy snowfalls that hit some mountain areas of Tajikistan have affected traffic via the Anzob pass, which links the northern province of Sughd to Dushanbe and central part of the country.
According to the Ministry of Transport (MoT), traffic via the Anzob pass has been suspended since Thursday evening.
Robiyamo Zavqiyeva, the chairperson of MoT highways department, said that a special commission has been set up to assess the situation on the Anzob pass. “The commission will also consider the issue of closing the pass for traffic in the winter period,” Zavqiyeva said, noting that the Anzob tunnel will work in the winter period when the Anzob pass is closed for traffic.
“Formal acceptance of the Anzob tunnel is scheduled for April next year; however, it will work two hours per day, from 12:00 to 14:00, on Thursdays and Sundays,” Zavqiyeva said.
