DUSHANBE, December 4, Asia-Plus -- A roundtable meeting formally titled “Role of Muslim Religious Leaders in Preventing Spread of HIV/AIDS in Central Asia” was held in Dushanbe today.
The event, organized by the Central Asian HIV/AIDS Control Project, has brought together known Muslim clerics from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as specialist in theology from Iran and representatives from Tajikistan’s health sector, penal system and NGOs.
The meeting focused on a powerful educational potential of religion that should be used to prevent spread of HIV/AIDS in the region.
