DUSHANBE, December 13, Asia-Plus -- A board of the Democratic Party (DPT) led by the imprisoned Mahmadruzi Iskandarov, seeks comprise with a faction of the DPT split from the party in April this year.
First deputy head of the Mahmadruizi Iskandarov-run DPT, Jumaboy Niyozov remarked this at a briefing in Dushanbe on December 12. According to him, negotiations between the party’s factions started two weeks ago and are still ongoing.
“We have considered actions of this faction [rival wing run by Masoud Sobirov] illegal from the very beginning, and the Ministry of Justice did not have the right to recognize Masoud Sobirov as the official leader of the Democratic Party as Mahmadruzi Iskandarov is the leader of the party,” said Niyozov, “We will appeal to a newly appointed Minister of Justice asking to give a legal assession to the ministry’s decision to recognize Sobirov as the official leader of the Democratic Party.”
Addressing reporters, Niyozov said that the Sobirov-led wing has not yet had a document on registration of the DPT under the leadership of Sobirov.
Jumaboy Niyozov noted that the negotiations initiated by both sides are ongoing and there are some attempts to unite the two factions. He said that supporters of Masoud Sobirov propose to convoke a congress to discuss the unification issues. “We are currently considering their proposal,” Niyozov said, noting that their party is open for those who adhere to the party’s Rules.
