DUSHANBE, December 19, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan has joined an agreement on the establishment of Central Asian regional information coordination center for combating trafficking in narcotics, psychotropic substances and precursors, according to Tajik MFA.
A source at a MFA said that the center is dedicated to become a regional unit to coordinate the fight against drug trafficking and the exchange of operational and analytical information between the law enforcement agencies of the region.
Activity of the center will remove many problems facing interaction between the law enforcement and other agencies of the countries that singed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on regional cooperation on drug control, as well as will raise efficiency of joint efforts to prevent spread of drugs.
Meanwhile, according to the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA), the center is being established under the aegis of the United Nations. A source at the counternarcotics agency said that members of the project group met in Almaty on December 11-13 to prepare draft provisions on the center’s staff.
