DUSAHNBE, December 28, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan’s farming units have failed to fulfill fruits and grapes harvest this year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP), Tajikistan has produced 62,415 tons of fruits, which is 68 percent of the target that has been determined at 92,000 tons, and nearly 46,000 tons of grapes, which is 66 percent of the target determined at 69,000 tons.
A source at a MoAEP said that the main reasons for failure to fulfill this year’s fruits and grapes targets were bad weather conditions and shortage of pesticides.
Under the national gardening and wine-growing development support program for 2006-2010 areas under gardens should have been increased by 1,409 hectares
