KULOB, January 5, Asia-Plus - The Communist Party (CPT) has supported the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) candidate running in new parliamentary elections in the Vose constituency.
The PDPT Primary organizations for Vose, Baljuvon and Temurmalik districts yesterday held a meeting in Vose and nominated Rahmon Umarov to run in the elections in the Vose constituency instead of having left deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Ghaybullo Afzalov. Afzalov’s powers as deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) terminated in connection with appointment of him as head of the Khatlon province.
Rahmon Umarov had previously been first deputy chairman of the abolished state committee for land for land-tenure regulations.
Secretary of the electoral commission Najot Safarov said that a conference of the CPT organizations for Vose, Baljuvon and Temurmalik districts held today supported the PDPT candidate.
Other parties have not yet nominated their candidates, according to Safarov. The deadline for nomination of candidates is January 7.
